In the Bleak Midwinter

Prompted by an idea from a Radio 2 producer to consider reinventing a modern day Blackheart version of a traditional Christmas carol, we decided to rewrite Christina Rosetti and Gustav Holst’s beautiful ‘In the Bleak Midwinter’. Retaining the original words of the first verse, the music was given an adventurous uplift in speed, instrumentation and production and the remaining three verses totally rewritten to ask questions about homelessness, loneliness and social problems of today.

‘In the Bleak Midwinter’ reached No.1 in the NCM Euro Chart.
